It has been cold here this week.
Not in a 'Oh poor shivering Texans it is 55 degrees' kinda way.
More of a 'How can Texas be so cold?' kinda way.
I know that I am not getting any sympathy from Northern readers, but you have to remember that there is a reason I live in Texas...it is warm. There are sacrifices I make during the summer (enduring 32 straight days above 100) so that I can snicker at snow and ice during the winter.
Snow? HA!
Ice? Tee hee!
And because it is warm the houses are built to maximize A/C.
And because it is warm the houses are built to create air flow.
And because it is warm the houses are provided with heat as an afterthought.
This results in climate zones across the house. My closet must be the North Pole. It is definitely penguin-ready. My master bedroom is Canada. Blog-Stedman's office is the Northern states. The living room is the Southern states including Texas. The kitchen must be situated smack dab on top of the equator...where did I put away that fan?
It seems nice to be able to travel the world in just a few steps...
*cough*
The problem is that you have to dress differently for each zone. This results in various layers of warmth strewn across the house.
Going to the kitchen? Don't forget the sunscreen.
Going to watch a little TV? You might need a sweater.
And Don't even THINK of entering my closet without a scarf and snow boots...

Yeah, I feel for ya. I live in Pennsylvania. It's a known fact that it's going to get cold in the winter. But we recently bought a house with heat vents in the ceiling (heat hovers above our heads) and no heat source at all in the kitchen. I don't know what we were thinking...cute little, affordable house. Who needs heat??? We are freezing our butts off! The cats won't come out of the attic. I'm holed up in the bedroom - the warmest room in the house.
gosh, our homes must have been designed by the same guy. it's great in the summer, but such a pain in the cold months. we've got fans all over the house trying to move the heat into rooms where we actually hang out.
Boy that's the truth~ Add our concrete floors on top of that and it's just nuts! I'm sitting at Reese's little circle table IN FRONT of the fireplace b/c the heater says it's warm enough, but not where I am!
I like the new look. My house is the same and I live in NYC. Its -10 and Im still running the a/c in the bedroom
Ha Ha see there is something to be said about my little house IT is preety much the same temp until night when the wind blows and the 1965 windows in the boys rooms don't so much keep the wind out so jason and I are sweating and they have 4 blankets and footy pjs on.. It is alot cooler now that we have wooden floors nad I thought the hermit crabs froze last night not good.
I felt the same way yesterday, complaining to my dad about my 38 degree day (it's a damp cold) while he's in Minnesota where it's 11 below. Hey, he wanted to live there!
I have some sympathy for you only because you are not used to it, but I live in OH so my sympathy just froze whilst walking through your closet!
My house has no insulation (in Indiana...gotta LOVE old houses)...and the floor RADIATES cold. BUT, if you want to get warm, head on into the sauna...I mean main bathroom. It's always the warmest (or coldest in the summer) room in the house. IT's the only insulated room, and has no windows!
Now I will laugh and think of you every time I complain about the drafty window in my artic walk-in closet.
I love it - you could open a theme park in your house!

I walked the dog yesterday morning and the temperature was ZERO. No sympathy from me is right, lady!
Our house is kinda that way too. Unfortunately my husband's office is the warmest room in the house and I am NEVER in there. Maybe I need to take over that room too!
it actually is colder in my house than it is outside. weird.
Our house was built in 1930. I think it was of FDR works projects built by people who have no business building houses. It's drafty and insulation was NOT a consideration. Sweaters are not optional gear here.
PS penguins live near the South Pole ;-)

Ok, I am snickering at you and your sudden chilly weather as i stand here knee deep in lake effect snow, BUT your climatical (made up word) melting pot of a house is going to get you sick!
Oh I know it is colder in my San Diego house than it is in my in-laws Fargo house--we're freezing AND we're not used to being cold. I feel for you.
Ha Ha, You just described my house! I keep a sweater on a chair in the dining room, a quilt on the couch, and throw by my computer. Love the new look by the way.

We live in the same kind of house! Only in metro Atlanta. Our bedroom is on the 3rd floor - heat rises, did you know? ALL the heat. In the den, I often wear what I refer to as my smoking jacket - a gigantic fluffy red winter coat. I'm serious.
Oh man, we have the same problem in our Northern California house. Sometimes when I'm in my daughter's room I grab her frog's basking lamp and turn it on myself to thaw out.

You need a penguin soundtrack...they move from the frozen tundra...they waddle (not that you waddle, my dear) to the warmth of the kitchen...they waddle to bed where the male penguin watches over the baby penguins while the female penguin enjoys the warmth of the kitchen preparing food for the flock. Think Morgan Freeman is available for the new penguin documentary? LOL

It's been the same here. Southern California - 38 degrees last night. WTF?
Our homes here were not built for cold weather. No insulation. And eating more Christmas cookies doesn't help...
it's been anywhere from 18 to 70 degrees in the last week. we're in north texas and i currently try to avoid the master closet igloo...
