POTUS ticket for family values

Posted by Texasholly |

I went to vote.

I took Ryan(6) with me. Usually I vote while dragging all three boys with me so just taking Ryan seemed like a treat.

He was very interested in the process. We talked about the election and what was involved. I described how there were a lot of people in our country and quite a few wanted to be president. I spoke about what was on the ballot and how I was voting for people to help run our city, Texas and the country.

He closely watched me vote. He read the Spanish words on the ballot that he recognized. He helped me put my ballot in the machine. We watched the machine accept my ballot. He got a "I voted" sticker.

I was patting myself on the back for the beautiful learning experience that I had just provided my child. On the way home we continued the discussion. He then said,

When do we find out if you win?

Honey, I am not running for president of the United States.

Why not?

I already have a job.

Please mommy! Please, just think about it. I really want you to be president.

That is really sweet of you, but no, I am not running for president.

Don't you want to be president?

Well...yes, I guess, but right now I am busy.

I really want you to be president.

Then I should run later. I could run for president when you are older. I could run for president when you can vote for me.

I'm NOT going to vote for you!

What? Why aren't you going to vote for me?

Because I am going to vote for myself.

There you have it dear reader. The official slate for POTUS 2028: Holly vs. Ryan.

Don't tell anyone, but I am voting for myself as well...

small cycle

I am posting this for Spin Cycle over at Sprite's Keeper which I was introduced to through Stiletto Mom. Isn't blogland grand?

OMG. It works! I have comments again!

I missed you comments!

So glad you are back.

No comments would make all other problems pale in comparison.

No way on Earth would I want that job--you and Ryan are free to duke it out amongst yourselves!

I have noticed a lot of comments messed up today. I figured it was some electoral conspiracy against bloggers. Sound about right to you? I took my almost 15 year old into the booth with me and made him go line by line down the ballot and tell me what he thought and why. I thought it was a great learning experience. The people in line behind us...not so much.

I heard so much about long lines that I dropped my girls (9 and 7) off at school, then went to vote. No lines. First time I was disappointed by no line, because I would have taken them with me.

Love your comment/no comment/who knows blog. Figured I'd get that in in case you lose comments. Again.

Yours is not the only one that is screwy.
I said an hour ago that I am thinking that you have WAY more embarrassing photos of Ryan than he does of you. RIGHT? Unless you have a chicken suit we don't know about...

Hi Holly! I'm sorry I've been absent for so long. Been trying to finish my next book and dealing with all sorts of family things, etc. Next thing I knew, months have passed since I've been anywhere online...
I might just vote for you some day. I figure if you can trap a beaver, you've got my vote! (I hope that's not a quotable!)

I didn't see that one coming! Great that you had the chance to explain these things to him. Maybe you should have run this year. Couldn't be any worse than our current choices. The boy may be onto something.

Too funny I hope you win

That is one job you can definitely have. I would never want it!

Good luck, and just a little hint, negative campaigning really never works out.

I'll need to see the negative campaign ads before I make my decision. Let the commercials begin! ...and don't tell me you didn't inhale!

My niece, when told that today we get to vote for who we think would run the country best, said, "I know who you're gonna vote for.....GOD!"

Kid's are too cute!

My daughter (8) is upset that we don't have a woman candidate for President. She's decided that someday, maybe, she'll just do it herself!

The way I look at it, if I'll never be mother of the bride, at least I can be mother of the president.

I'd vote for you :)
Last week after we voted my girls kept asking if we won or not--I told them we won't no for a while and they were quite upset ;)

You will have to update us when you decide to run for President. Or when Ryan decides to. I'll give out campaign stickers.

He sounds adorable. Swing by my site if you get a chance and see what my son thought about the election this year. I love the kids take on things!!
Adding you to my blogroll so I remember to come by more often...

Fabulous! Maybe you can satisfy him with PTO President one day?

Angie Ledbetter said...

Hey, can't y'all get on the same ticket so we don't have a split vote? Sheesh! :)

I'd vote for you! :)

WAIT - say this word first: nuclear

Holly vs Ryan... Hmmm...

Which one of you is going to implement a 4 day work week and free candy on Tuesdays? That is who I am voting for!

hi there! Loved reading about your dialogue with Ryan. Thanks for sharing it. I recently documented a dialogue between my nephew and his mother (my sister) who also are based in Texas. It was one of many dialogues during this last few months! She also has three boys. Glad you enjoyed your time with just one at the polls.

if you make it to the white house are you going to do your weekly radio addresses via blog illustrations? please?

Hi there! Love the design of your site, so deliciously retro!
I think if the two of you join forces (Ryan for VP since you obviously have more experience and can drive and all), you could take this race all the way!
Welcome to the Spin Cycle and you're linked!
On Friday, I'll be re-linking all the Spinners so I hope some more people get to meet you!

As long as you promise not to use the words "Maverick" or "Fundamental", I promise I'll vote for you.;)

This was so great. Can't wait to hear what sorts of things come out of our daughter's mouth when she gets to be that age. But isn't it fantastic the way kids think?
