On Monday we went to a museum with a group of other moms. On the way home both boys fell asleep. In the driveway I stopped and took this picture:
Yesterday we went to a neighbor's house to learn and play with friends. On the way home Rhett(2) melted. He screamed the entire way home. In the driveway I sped up hoping to end the torture as quickly as possible.
The screaming continued into the house and I made a decision that he was more in need of a nap then food so I just carried him upstairs to his crib. Whew. He settled down immediately once alone in the dark.
I walked down the stairs to find Reid(4) sitting on the bottom step. I sat down beside him and scooped him onto my lap.
Me: Does it bother you when Rhett cries?
Reid: Yes
Me: Me too.
Reid: It seems like a thousand Rhetts crying.
It is funny where empathy is found...

How sweet. If Callee cries, Taylor cries too while simultaneously yelling at her to "Please stop" then yelling at me to "Please make her stop"! Too funny.
Oh, sweet Reid. That funny boy.
Awww...the little ones sure do make a racket don't they?
How very sweet. Yes empathy from your children is pure gold!
I love when my little guy falls asleep in the car, UNTIL we are still up at 11:30pm and he doesn't even look tired!
Pax, EJT
So how long did you sit in the car and let them sleep? They look so sweet.
Oh, poor kiddies. Hubby has the look of "Make it stop" on his face when J goes into meltdown mode.
The little guy gets it, that's for sure!
Awwww...that is just the sweetest thing.
BTHW...One of your Google ads right now is "Your Pretty Mexican Bride is Waiting For You." teeheehee
I was going to say the exact same thing. When Rhett cries it seems like a thousand children screaming....
Signed,
Your crotchy old neighbor.
:)
Great story. Your boys are lovely.
He's right, it does seem like a thousand of them crying once it starts. Smart kid.
Not missing those days.
Awww thats sweet. I love moments like that
My kids go crazy when the little one is crying--they are always getting him and holding him and of course, bringing him to me :0
What a sweet pic--they look so cozy in the minivan of death ;)
what a couple of cuties.
why are you using photographs? where's our illustrations?
your slipping girl.
LOL my children always cried much louder than other peoples kids do now.. (grin)
What an adorably protective brother!
Reid is such an empathetic soul :) So sweet. I love the pic of the back seat!
from the mouths of babes...What a dear picture of two little angels, fast asleep. I guess those moments are meant to keep us going when the screaming kicks in. That yin/yang thing I suppose...
Yay, I can finally comment again! For some reason, the past few days I couldn't.
Anyway--loved having you guys over & sorry we wore Rhett out to the point of meltdown. LOVE car naps!
Oh... so sweet... It never ceases to amaze me how one minute of the girls will show such empathy for me as the other sister screams, etc.--sharing the frustration, expressing her anger at having to put up with the racket, etc... and then ten minutes (or even less) later start screaming/acting up herself!
He sure explained it well. The crying always seems worse in the car too.
Well said, and sooooo cute! :)
how sweet, the boy always tries to calm baby girl down too.
So sweet...I hate the meltdown:(
I love it when they pass out in the car and it's so nice and quiet and I can actually listen to some music...
That Reid is very profound and he is SO right! HA!
Oh my gosh - so adorable - "A Thousand Rhetts crying!"
Awww!!! So sweet -- and a great writer in training.
Five of my six have gone into serious meltdown, in public, with me.
Not fun.
I refuse to go out alone with number six, until he turns 18. :)
Kids are so cool, and honest, ain't it cool?
I wish we could all stay so honest, all through life...great story.
Yes, sometimes I feel like there are a thousand D's and Peep's. Like, ummm, today.
*snicker*
adore ya... and that is true honesty and unabashed reality right there.
What a sweet, perceptive big brother.
Empathy is good wherever you can get it, even if it's from one who was, himself, a thousand-fold cryer not so long ago.
It stresses my oldest girl out, too. :-(
