The Nirvana bedtime routine is predictable. The boys eat dinner, get a bath and brush their teeth. They get to watch a show on TV if the previous three steps have gone smoothly.

It is my goal to choose something calm and unlikely to induce nightmares when choosing that show. For several years we got away with just turning on "The Goodnight Show" on Sprout. Recently, a rebellion of the older two boys has ensued with accusations of that show being "for babies", "boring" and the worst offense in my house, "for girls". Oh the horror.

To squash the rebellious masses, blog-Stedman has purchased some DVDs that have made the boys squeal in delight. They are relatively calm and don't seem to cause nightmares so count me in.

Last night the show had been set on the TV and blog-Stedman and I were downstairs eating dinner when Rhett(2) came down for a wardrobe adjustment:

It appeared that his police belt was too big and kept falling down around his ankles. I fixed the problem by punching an extra hole in the flimsy belt.

Life at two was great again. He wants to make sure you note the one driving glove and his "camera". Don't try to tell him they are binoculars. I am just warning you. He returned upstairs to the TV.

A bit later I went up to check on the boys. I hear hysterical laughter. I walk in to them watching this:

(the episode where Gilligan accidentally has an plastic explosive tooth filling)

I turn to see this:

This:

I love how you take pictures of a situation (like the wayward police belt) before fixing it. Where would we be if you weren't so quick with the camera?

Those pictures of the boys are great. And it's awesome that you're raising them on the classics like Gilligan's Island. I turned on the Flinstones for my son the other day and just about forced him to watch it.

Of course, he loved it.

Oh, I love it. Question though? What was the last one doing? He looks like he is with the bomob squad or conducting some scientific experiment.

LOL - well quietly smiling .I love Gilligan's Island ... they are so cute Holly and your's or Dadddy's dress sense ?

Look at all that calmness, crazy suits and all. The getting ready for bed thing around here is not quite so easy. Maybe I'll mix it up a bit by adding a little TV quiet time AFTER they behave!

The pajamas are just extraneous. Clearly they are just too cool.

I have been downloading Bob Newhart shows for my stand-up to be 9 year old. He thinks it is the funniest show in the world! Yeah for retro kids!

Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! I love that Blog-Stedman bought these DVDs! Hurray for Blog-Stedman - I was sure they were watching Monsters Inc or the Incredibles -which is what WE watch when we are fried and hating life. But no! Gillian is so much better - sexy girls and all!

That's what playing shows that inspire creativity and thought will do to a kid. Darn that Professor and his make-shift coconut gas mask.

LOL! You know, just wondering what's up with Texas and footie pj's...it seems to be very trendy. It snowed here last night and my girls don't wear footies.

How adorable. And all thanks to Gilligan. Now you've gotta get them watching Leave it to Beaver, girl!

It's so nice that you'll have these lovely diaries of your daily life when they're older--you will so cherish them. It's the sweet little fleeting moments that you think you'll remember forever that escape your mind. And by blogging you get to capture them again.

very sweet

This reminds me of good times hanging with my older brothers and trying to make sense of what Gilligan and Mary Ann and Ginger and the Professor were all about though I don't think I had a police belt or astronaut costume to wear. Props make memories so much more vivid.

Hands down, Gilligan's Island is my children's FAVORITE show. They are 13 and 9.

And now, I will be emailing Queen B, who did NOT take my suggestion to get Gilligan's Island for her daughter on their 12 hour trip to Florida.

O.K. Hysterical!! Too cute. You might want to have them consult with Ms. Farklepants as to their hip attire.

"my" HRH would LOVE Gilligan's Island! The Huz bought the complete Electric Company on DVD. I think the boys were bored inside of five minutes. We were rivited.

Now if I can just turn them onto Schoolhouse Rock.
