My baggage

Posted by Texasholly |

One of my all time favorite TV episodes was the Baggage episode of Everybody Loves Raymond.

It portrays the pinnacle of a couple's passive-aggressive fighting with perfection.

They share a suitcase on a weekend trip.
When they return it gets placed on the stair landing.
Where it sits for days, and then weeks.
Clothes that were packed inside the suitcase they start wearing.
But no one moves the suitcase.

What does it say about me that I am playing this passive-aggressive game with myself?
I brought home my suitcase.
I placed it in the masterbath.
Where it has sat for days...6 days...almost a week.
Clothes that were packed inside the suitcase I have started wearing.
But no one moves the suitcase.

Blog-Stedman is unpacked.
The boys are unpacked.
The rest of the house has attained Nirvana-neutral status.

Yet my suitcase remains...

In the end of the Everybody Loves Raymond episode, Raymond is leaving for a weekend trip and does this:

Can anyone lend me some stinky cheese?

That wouldn't work with me. I'd be downing the stinky cheese with lots of wine.

This is also one of my favorite episodes of Raymond. Probably my favorite since it is the first one I remember when I think about the show.

A patient told me that when he and his wife divorced, his wife made a big fuss about keeping the expensive custom drapes in their (now her)home. On the day he moved out she wasn't there. He took down the drapery rods, stuffed them with shrimp and left.

I LOVE THAT EPISODE! It SO speaks to me and my husbands relationship. I will TRY my hardest to ignore something just to see if he will do it... but inevitably he waits me out and I do it just so I don't have to look at it anymore.

come to find out he REALLY could car less and was not playing the game... it was me... against... ME. Errrr

This is so me! I will come home from a trip and continue to get ready from the suitcase and overnight bag.

No stinky cheese - it's Friday Night Vino here and I need it.

However, I do have an abundance of plastic grocery bags if you need to take a weekend trip anytime soon...

HAHA I tell ya... that sometimes happens even with our laundry bags... like I will look over and before I know it, we have been living out of a big blue IKEA bag I used to carry our laundry upstairs the last week!

I think I would have thrown the suitcase at him before it got to that point. I don't really do passive-aggressive.

My favorite Raymond is the one where Marie sculpts a statue that looks like a vulva. Truly hysterical.

A week? Child's play! I've got packed suitcases older than my youngest kid who's 16! (Unpacking means the trip's really over.) LOL

Yourself needs to get off her high horse and unpack that bag. Why is she just waiting for you to use it when she used it too?! How rude!

(I'm hanging at a sleepover at Blue Yonder [http://blueyonder.typepad.com/my_weblog/2009/01/pajama-party-beebeemod-giveaway.html] tonight and I just TP'd your blog. Whoot-whoot!)

You's unpack faster if you'd have brought home a ski instructor. Keep this in mind for the future.

I died laughing at this, this is my FAVE episode as well, only second to Deb trying to hit Marie in the head with a frying pan when Marie wasn't looking.

Anyways, LITERALLY, I just emptied and put away our suitcases from our October Florida trip 2 weeks ago!

I mean, no hurry, it's winter and it was really just a great stroage for our summer cothes:)

so ... um ... have you been peeking in the window of my house or something? (not that i would EVER put stinky cheese in a suitcase ... but i sure as heck would leave it sitting around forever and wear the clothes out of it. sigh)

That was my ultimate favorite episode.

Sigh.

I miss that show.

I've started emptying the dirty clothes directly into the laundry room before taking the bags upstairs...but it doesn't help. It still sits there waiting for one of us to make the first move.

Great post!

I just found my son's suitcase from his trip to Bosnia last June. Along with a small family of rodents. Need any mice? :)

Too funny! I haven't watched this show in YEARS, yet I remember this episode. It really must have hit some nerves with a bunch of people, judging by the comments you're getting.
