The surprises never stop with boy #3...
One of the things I have enjoyed about having boys is their total lack of interest in what they are wearing, when they are wearing it and who sees them wear it. Oh, I have had the occasional request demand for blue clothing or power ranger attire, but overall it has been pretty easy.
Not so much with Rhett(2). He is a fashionista. He is a boy with a clear idea of what he should wear. He even has strong opinions about what I should wear. For the last 6 months or so he has been adamant that the only pair of pajamas that he could be seen in were his orange power ranger pjs:
God forbid I actually wash them and not have them ready in time for bed time.
Thankfully after months of orange PJ obsession, he recently accepted an alternate pair of pjs:
His embracement of red monster truck pajamas has made my life much easier. PJ laundry is no longer an emergency. The orange power ranger set is now in a rotation with just 50% usage.
A few nights ago he declared that he was going to wear the shirt of the monster truck set and the shorts of the orange power ranger set to bed:
He then stated that he would wear the opposite combination the next night:
No problem. I am a mommy who knows how to not pick a battle.
The red and orange jammie combo it is!
He got dressed.
He brushed his teeth.
He played for awhile.
He went through his bedtime routine.
He went to bed.
I kissed him goodnight, turned off the light and left the room.
*3 minutes pass*
MOMMY!
yes?
I NEED TO CHANGE MY JAMMIES...THEY DON'T MATCH.

HA HA HA !! that is totally Rhett!!! He so knows what he wants! I tell you he is the ruler of his own little world over there at The homer kingdom...
how cute. i had a brother like that. none of my kids seem to care much if things match. not even the girls. my oldest is 15 and wants to be a fashion designer. the stuff she puts together doesn't seem to match to me at all, but i guess she is just working with what she has.
Oh, the memories are flooding back. That's why I love all of you with younger kids so much - you help me to remember the insanity I had forgotten.

although i will say that 14-year-old girls have a fashion sense that kicks my butt. ugh.

At that age, Reese had a football jersey obsession. I bought about 15 jerseys and he would go through them ALL in 1 day. Love the little quirks they have ! :)
I love it - thinking of this will keep me smiling all day. My youngest is the most dapper around here. The others will wear whatever's closest to where they're sitting when they get dressed. Boys!
My 3 year old, very much cares what he wears. And usually that means sweats in the summer and shorts in the winter. Or rain boots and shorts. Don't pick your battles, but matching IS important. Nice job!

Ah, boys. They are SO much fun!
So cute!! I feel for you - the Youngest had a 10 minute melt down the other day because I refussed to wear the flip flops he had picked out for me.
I don't mind not matching to make the little man happy, but my toenails were naked (pronounced neck-ked), and I was raised like a proper Southern Lady. You just don't leave the house with exposed neck-ked toes!!

I can't even tell you how many times I have had a freaked out kid screaming about the fact that her headband didn't match her PJ's. Because, you know, that is the most important thing there is in life. Or something.
I don't pick clothing battles all of the time.
For instance this morning, my daughter wanted to wear her heavy winter coat...it's going to be 71 here today. No problem! Wear it! Just go to school!
Wow my son has never asked for any artcile of clothing. LAst night his dad dressed him in miss matching T2 pj's (he wears T5) they barely came to his calf. He didnt seem to notice at all.
You pick your battles wisely and the situation resolves itself. You're a good woman--the non-matching would have driven me nuts.
*Warning, warning, Will Robinson* This laissez-faire approach to fashion could last a lifetime. My big galoot teen-men love nothing more than going about the house (or to the street to haul out the garbage) in nothing but boxers...no matter who's here. Ug!
PS I'm partial to the grr-animal kinda dressing. I mix and match my scrubs almost daily and am one happy (unfashionable) camper. ;)

At my house, Jungle boy might go to bed wearing one thing and get up in the morning wearing something else.
I've gotten used to it. Boys are weird.

How cute! My youngest would sleep in anything as long as it was zipped all the way to his eyeballs. He got a new jacket from his aunt one time, and he wouldn't take it off for 24 hours.

I think it has something to do with being the third boy - because Danny is like that, whereas the other two could care less, they even wear whatever they wore during the day to bed, much to the chagrine of their mother.
Danny might also have been affected by his three older sisters as well though, not quite sure on that one yet.
Adorable! That is SO something my daughter would do. She always takes off her socks before nap time and I will ask her "are you SURE you don't want your socks on?" (while putting them in my back pocket when she's not looking) and she says "no socks mommy!" and then as soon as she is in bed, she starts yelling "I need my socks!!!"
My oldest daughter freguently changes pajamas after we've kissed her goodnight and left the room. It isn't unusual to find her floor littered with jammies in the morning. Crazy kid!

Now you wait one minute, I know you live in Texas and I know it's a state law that little boys must wear footie pj's to bed in Texas. Am I going to have to report you for breaking the law?
