WHO AM I?

Posted by Texasholly |

I started this blog before ever reading a blog which has created a situation...

I signed up to write under my initials: HRH.

I love my initials.

I found a man to marry seventeen years ago that kept my initials intact.

I go sign up for other things: twitter, stumble, plurk, etc. and want to be recognized by those who know me.

But my initials are taken. My parent-given initials are a bit popular.

So I start randomly choosing available names.

It has gotten to the place where I don't know who I am.

Anywhere.

I can't keep up with myself.

I use my initials here, but speak of myself in third person as Holly.

Please don't mention how annoying that is.

I would use June Cleaver (even though not deserved) but it is occupied as well.

The madness had to stop.

Insert sage advice here.

Oh, Jennifer my yoda.

Yoda suggested simplifying.

Yoda is right.

The initials have to go...Oh NO!

Holly it is.

Crap! Holly is taken everywhere too.

So from now on it is texasholly.

Simple?

Please recognize me when I visit.

You don't even have to refer to me as HRH anymore...

PS--If anyone can guess (other than Roger, Jennifer and Ron) what the poker connection is to my texasholly name you will be in my fruit bowl next Monday.
PPS--I will remain HRH on one blog. It is my hope to reach epic size and break 400 by year end.

the planet of janet said...

oh, and i feel your name brand pain. all those janets in blogland led me to changing my name to the planet of janet.

it was traumatic. but necessary. i found i had commented on blogs before i even got there.

Marinka said...

Those are your initials?! I thought it stood for "Her Royal Highness". Now I feel ridiculous for curtseying. And for not knowing how to spell that word.

OHmommy said...

Ha. That is funny, that they are all taken, and you are having an interweb crisis.

I was thinking about switching over to my real first name.

But now. The OHmommy thing is kinda of here to stay. Even my husband now calls me OHmommy. LOL.

Texas Hold Em... :)

My old initials were KSK, now I have KSD. It's not the same. If only I had been smart like you and chose a man with the right last name. ;)

Jennifer said...

:) i was wondering at first who the heck texasholly was... b/c it used to say HRH.... but then I followed the link to here and am all clear on it. :)

My intials didn't change either after marriage... thank goodness not sure i could deal that sort of change. lol but seriously i like that my intails are still the same, makes life easier some how. :)

Jennifer is a very popular name so I try to shorten it... Jenn Jen or whatever... they are all taken.. so I usually add 4 or 44 to it... only b/c 4 is my favorite number. lol yeah... i have a favorite number... lame i know but whatever. lol

i think the next thing i am going to join an need a name for i will just jeniqua... sort of like Jennifer but with a twist. lol :D

well texasholly... enjoy your new screen name.

Couldn't you just add 'T' to the "HRH"? Isn't that more simple than "texasholly"?

Then you could say that stands for
Texas
Hold "em
R
Holly

Sorry blanked on the "r"...and it couldv'e been such a funny comment...she was going strong, then....nothing. I suck.

Rachel said...

Poker Girl. IS it 'cos you won all that money playing Texas Hold 'Em :-)

I knew exactly who TexasHolly was. It was a no brainer for me. I've been thinking the same thing after reading Goddess Jennifer's post.
There aren't too many Rachel's around, but there are enough.
I just can't think what to do. ;-(
Happy Tuesday my dear Holly.

I'm always astonished to find that "Phdwithninekids" isn't already taken. (Would you believe "The Philosopher Mom" was? I had to insert a hyphen.) But commenting I use my real name. I think it's an academic habit.

I'm glad you chose "texasholly." I like it best of all yours...though "Bloody Holly" is a close second.

Jenn @ Juggling Life said...

I was wondering why the change; I have to agree that HRH is a rocking initial combo.

I just discovered another "suburban correspondent." I feel...violated.

funny.
you see, I'm not real quick always. I sort of have to warm up to my intelligence, in the morning. (anyone who cares to argue that 10:15 is not really "morning" obviously needs to warm up to theirs too...)
Anyway, so I am leaving a comment on a blog this morning and I see this little stick figure icon with the name "texasholly" who has already left a comment...
your name AND a stick figure pic. I was sure someone was trying to be just like you! (and why wouldn't they want that...)
My defensive super powers flared up and I was about to bust some blogging dot-dot-dot... Glad my brain suddenly clicked, and I came here to see your announcement...

Manic Mommy said...

Yep. I'm one of 'those bloggers' who effed with your initials. It's my older son's pseudonym and I'm sorry but it fits him to. a. tee.

My pre-married name was ten letters and four syllables long. I married a man with six letters and two syllables. And only lost one place in the alphabet.

Angie @ KEEP BELIEVING said...

TexasHolly I had to look you up the other day and was all, "who is Texas Holly, HRH would not be pleased." Then I discover you are one in the same.

I totally lost my status at Meg's place. I started signing Angie @ KEEP BELIEVING because I was one of like 16 Angie's that comments around my favorite blogs. I would be over 100 by now, but I had to start over. I'm TIFFED about it. I'm gonna demand she give me some sort of recognition.

KEEP BELIEVING

TexasHolly is fine, although I would never change a thing about my blog just because it's the same as someone elses. Titles cannot be copywrited, and there's space for more than one Beck in the world.
But I do LIKE TexasHolly.

Jennifer S said...

Wait, no one has gotten it yet! Pick me, pick me!

Fine. I'll just sit her. In the back. With the answer. (Anyone want to pay me $20 for it?)

Kellan said...

I like the new name, but did wonder if it was you when I saw it - or someone else. You know I met and hung out with Meghan - in San Francisco - loved her - she is so darling and I just loved her!

Have a good day - Kellan

Yay! Someone I "know" online uses MRH and I have always had a miserable time remembering which one is which since I am a doofus. TexasHolly I can handle.

Anonymous said...

I recognized texasholly when you signed my blog earlier, so not to worry ... BUT, I do have to admit that I didn't realize "HRH" were your initials ... I called you "her royal highness" and I thought THAT was awfully clever of you!

Valarie Lea said...

TexasHolly needs to Hold 'em, HaHa I made a funny!!

Oh you don't think its that funny??

Ok I will sit down and be quiet now :)

Betsy, short for Elizabeth, formally known as Esther said...

I didn't recognize you at first! Glad to know it is still you!

Fiesty Charlie said...

Don't you worry yourself about ME recognizing you.... once I am hooked on a blog, (semi stalking you) you can be sure I will recognize you no matter what you call yourself.... {grin}

Your writing shines through even in comments... so don't worry...

I recently had to change my online name, due to religious stalkers trying to convert me into a "breeder." I was not a happy camper at all, but now, I am figuring out I was a Fiesty Charlie along...

I am so glad that I will still be able to find you.

texasholly - I would recognize you ANYWHERE.

Is it too late for beaver-trapping-holly? I think that has a nice ring....

Chicky said...

Ha! I knew you were Holly, but I always thought HRH meant Her Royal Highness - LOL

Beth Cotell said...

Just like domestic chicky, I wondered if it stood for Her Royal Highness. Seriously.

Cookin' Mama said...

Huh. I'm with a lot of the other commenters - I thought HRH was Her Royal Highness. But, that might have been because of Manic Mommy's son. I like TexasHolly. Has a nice ring.

EatPlayLove said...

nice to meet you texas holly. my initials didn't change when I tied the knot, because I am one of those wild and crazy women that didn't change my name. Oops.

tommie said...

Just guessing Texas hold 'em.

I guess that is one of the things I like about my name....not too many girl tommies

Try being a Jennifer in her mid-30s. Every other freaking woman in the US of A is a Jennifer in her mid-30s. I didn't even bother to use my name in my blog. But now I have a blog with an addy that isn't the blog's title. Yes, I have to work on that. Trust me, it's in the queue. Several places down from "how in HELL do I get melted crayon out of a full load of otherwise clean laundry???" ;)

Anglophile Football Fanatic said...

Now I'm confused by also being a Holly from Texas, Holly.

Louise said...

I thought the name was different. I'm apparently a little slow.

When I started my blog, I thought the domain name was available, too. Apparently it wasn't, so I can never be just me.com without the blog server. Somewhat annoying, but I guess I'll live.

I kept my initials, too. I love them. I was going to tell you what they say, but I forgot I changed my name for online, so it wouldn't make any sense at all here. (I think it's too late and I need to go to bed.)

Anonymous said...

I will love you and recognize you no matter what name you're using. Imagine how confusing it is for Witness Protection Program people.

And when you hit 400 we'll have a joint party. Sound like a plan?!

Brittany said...

FIRST!

err...500th:(

So, I think it's all been said. I love the hrh, but understand the need to merge identities.

Plus, texasholly is a super cute name, probably from a time when you were in Texas, and you and your friend hustled some drunk mobsters during a heated game of texas hold 'em, taking them for thousands, and then having to spend the rest of the weekend wearing wigs and speaking in heavy russian accents so they couldn't find you.

Eternal Sunshine said...

Aww, I knew it was you.

Or the OTHER Holly - Just kidding.

I went and changed my name recently, and TWO.DAYS.LATER. I found a blog - that I had never seen before, that has my name. And she's been there longer, and I've come across the same blog/person two or three times since then.

But not before, no, I couldn't have discovered it BEFORE I changed my name like a big giant dork!! Uh, sorry about that...

Ugh - for now the new name stays, until I can figure out what to do. Probably better off with my real name. LOL!

Life in the Crazy Lane said...

I like HRH. It makes me think "Her Royal Highness" ...

That's why I switched to Memarie Lane. I never met another Marie until I began blogging, and there are Maries everywhere all of the sudden. Also my nickname has always been Ree, but I know of at least 5 bloggers that go by Ree. And I always thought it was so unusual!

Roger Miller said...

Too many Holly's in the blog world!!

Did anyone guess? I know, I know, I know -- Mr. Cotter! (Hey he's a poker player too, how about that!)

So are you changing your plurk ID as well? Or have you just given up on us all. :)

When I was in the 4th grade I was cast as a holiday elf named HOLLY in my school's Christmas play.

I didn't have an elf costume so my mom let me wear my stepsister's red and white cheerleading uniform and some weird slippers she had crocheted that turned up at the ends. I looked completely ridiculous but I was SO PROUD of myself, mostly because I LUUUUVED the name HOLLY and now I got to pretend that it was mine. I totally thought I was the star of the show.

Looking back on it, I realize that I did not have any lines and was probably given the role of HOLLY the elf because I had zero talent and the most ridiculous elf costume you could imagine.

But I still love the name HOLLY.

MightyMom said...

aliases are a bit confusing at times...as are passwords ... I keep 2 and that's about it.

simple is always better.

oh and for the record, I refer to myself as Mightymom all the time...even at home and work. teeheehee.

by the way, I'm certifiably odd, so probably not an example to follow

:-)

Scary Mommy said...

I am really glad you clarified. My little brain was just not getting it.

Colleen - Mommy Always Wins said...

I hear ya - most places I'm mommy_wins, so as to stay consistent with my blog name, but I goof sometimes (like on cre8buzz) and sign up with something like colleenv218 and am stuck with that. I should look into standardizing more of them...

KG said...

Hmm ... Trannyhead is taken, too, in case you were curious.

Tootsie Farklepants said...

You'll always be HRH to me.

Can I still call you MISS HOLLY??? That's what I think of you in my mind! Lots of !!!!!, a little banana dancing, some jumping around but MISS HOLLY none the less.

It will take some getting used to, but texasholly does suit you.

I admit I was confused seeing texasholly here n there. Now I am all clear.

Jennifer S said...

Okay, that would make me crazy.(Sorry Blog-Stedman)

What would happen if you set all the clocks to the actual time (assuming you could pin that down?)? :-)

It's probably not worth it, though. Maybe he will leave a comment explaining the WHY of it.

Melanie Sheridan said...

My husband thinks I'm crazy for setting clocks ahead. This has me beat by a mile!

Suzie said...

I do it too. I know live by the clock on the cable box. I have no idea what clock is right anymore and Ive lost all ability to do math

Anonymous said...

My husband TOTALLY could have written this.

I am guilty of almost everything up there. As a matter of fact, the only clock that is anywhere near to actual atomic time is the one on the computer.

Otherwise, I don't think anyone in the house has a clue as to the actual time. And being that I can't stand to be late, that works just fine for me!

Loralee Choate said...

I set my clocks aside, too.

I don't know why but it just seems to make it easier to get up in the morning.

Blah.

I like texasholly. But I understand what you mean, my internet name is the same everywhere for simplicity's sake, but I don't actually like it.

Darn! I wish I read you in August! I so would have guessed Texas Dolly! What's with the bracelet being played in November? Lame.
