I have noticed lately it has been a bit dramatic here at the Nirvana. Emotions are running amok. I have created the following "Nirvana Response List" for your education.
Legend--action:response
1. poke:punch
2. slight injury:scream of death
3. slight injustice:scream of death (for alternate response, see #4)
4. slight injustice:punch
5. not getting your way:tantrum
6. really not getting your way:tantrum/scream of death combo
7. really not getting your way when your brother is involved:tantrum/scream of death/punch combo*
*the tantrum/scream of death/punch combination is technically difficult, but can be honed to perfection with practice.
To all this drama I say...
Dear Drama,
You know me well. We used to hang out all the time. Our memories are vivid. We had BIG plans. We dreamed HUGE dreams. Our connection was larger than life. I may have neglected you a bit recently--for that I apologize. I have been busy. It looks like you have found a way to occupy yourself as well. I don't know if there is a drama code of ethics, but I think you may have breached it by teaming up with Genetics. Drama + Genetics = Love. Drama and Genetics sitting in a tree...
So now Drama, you have teamed up with Genetics and befriended my children. Oh Drama, you are always so....dramatic. Oh Genetics, you are so....genetic-y. Why can't the apples fall a bit further from the tree?
With undying love and devotion,
Holly

Basking on my one-childness this morning....ahhhhhh... :) tee he he
Drama's twin lives here. It's sad. In fact, as we heavily consider expanding the size of our family- we are wanting to balance out the gender factors in an effort to thwart drama's twins evil attempt to take over our family.
That drama has clones, I see, because Misty and I both have drama in our households. And to be quite honest, when drama leaves my boys, it possesses me. I can still be dramatic.
CURSE YOU, EVIL DRAMA!!!!
KEEP BELIEVING
God, I wish I couldn't relate to this post.
Amen about the apples and the trees - why is it they seem to pick up ALL of our "not so terrific" qualities, but pick and choose the decent ones?
Good luck, I have resorted to "quiet time" for the last day or so when the drama queens (one girl, two boys, but queens none-the-less) have been showing up!
Ok I dont know what happened to the comment I was typing, so lets try this again.
So thats why my children are the way they are!
I think we should call it Drametics or maybe Dramnetics. Is it to close to Dramatic??
I thought drama was reserved for the girls. Whoever called them the fairer sex was an idiot. I have two and have seriously considered changing the name of my blog to "Less Drama Please" or something else that has Drama in it. 'Cause that's my life now and I've been told it only increases as they get older.
Good luck on getting drama to listed to your letter. Let me know if she responds. I might have to write her next.
So, you're saying that the already ridiculous amount of drama that we experience around here is going to INCREASE? I was hoping that it would get better as they got older.
They're not GIRLS, though, so there's that.
Does Drama ever go away? I'm just asking...I would love Drama to take a vacation...
Drama been hanging out over hear too putting its dirty feet on my NEW COUCH ARGGHHHH. Come get him please.
And I thought only princesses had drama. Glad to know it's not discriminating. :-)
Wait until they cell phones and like girls. You ain't seen nothin' yet!
Drama has managed to manifest itself at our house also. They say you reap what you sew, well I'm reaping at age 2 what I sewed at age 15. How is that fair? Really?
Ah, the drama. We have plenty in my house as well. Siblings create such joy *eyeroll*
Why do I see my future in this post?
Love the way your mind works.
I like the list and I'll keep it handy. I guess it's because you don't have girls that "tears" and "slamming doors" do not have a place on it?
Fabulous list!!!!
I would like to add one!
perceived injustice : "I'm telling Mooooooooom!"
Oh how I shudder when I hear that...
Hee hee - I love the combos. And remember then well, actually.
Replace "punch" with "girly slap/hair pull", and you've got the conflict resolution down for my house.
Time out to everyone involved. As a rule, only I am allowed regular tantrums and screams of death.
Be grateful that the drama/gene pool marriage produced boys. Somewhat limited in drama aptitude, especially as they age.
I can so relate to the Scream Of Death.
That is HYSTERICAL!!!
I will add that the scream of death triggers something in my pea brain that makes me want to do the punching...but they are always too fast....heh.
My Dearest Holly,
When you left me, lo, those many many years ago, I vowed I would have the last laugh. You broke my heart and I'm a lesser entity because of it, you cold-hearted, unemotional woman.
I hope you and your Common Sense get what you deserve! And if you ever want to see your children calmly sitting on the couch with their hands neatly folded in their lap, you might consider coming back to me.
Still Pining,
Drama
do not get into a contest over draaaahmaaaah with the mother of a 14-year-old girl.
send chocolate.
Drama! Drama?! There's no Drama in home life!!
Whatever.
I do feel your pain, as I had to listen to Jenni talk about our drama queen Jessica, and she hasn't even had that special time in life yet.
I think I'm gonna have to take up some fishing. :)
YOU?
Dramatic?
I never would have guessed.
:)
See, I always thought that the drama went along with having girls and girls only. Boy (sorry for the pun - or am I?) was I wrong!!
To the response column, I'd like to add:
- Hair pulling (no girls here either)
- Biting (enough for dental recognition)
- "You're bad/mean!"
- General screeching
- Hitting ME
- Spitting (raspberry-variety)

Suburban Correspondent is right on. Try adding a girl to the mix...ugh.
My girl will stand in front of the mirror when she's mad/sad just to see her expression and tears. Then she practices her faces for effect.
It's awesome. (ahem)
I love what Suburban Correspondent and Jennifer H said! This house it's girls. And one GIRL IN PARTICULAR, but COME ON, DRAMA! That didn't come from my genes. I've got someone else's kid. The one that someone else's mom was hoping for when she said, "I hope you have a kid just like you when you grow up." My mom never said that. Where did this Drama Queen come from? (She punches and does the Scream of Death, too.)
If only there were sound effects on your blog. The letter to drama needed a door slam at the end..."With undying love and devotion,
Holly"
***Door slam***
Nice one
Did my girls' leave their drama at your house?! No wonder I've been so happy recently ;)
My kids are excellent at the Drama. They are such little overactors it is amazing.
I feel your pain.
Precious One is an Only Child....
who cried crocodile tears at herself in the mirror
and perfected shreiking "MOOoooOOOmmm!!!" at an early age...
followed by "Everybody calls YOU psycho! Know why because your'e PSYCHO, MOOoooOOOmmm!!!"
*door slamming*
followed by "I hate you I hate you I hate you" in a teeny behind the door Scream of Death....
***sigh***
she is much friendlier now that she's memorized my credit card number....
Tilly is a Drama Queen that recognized herself as such a year ago (at six)! After watching the A&E/BBC production of Pride and Prejudice, she asked if she was going to grow up to be as annoying as Mrs. Bennet!!! I found it difficult to lie and tell her "no"...
But I think she will be if she doesn't start reining it in!
Ah, the Drama!!!
I wish she was braver, I'd sign her up for a theater group!
Boy genetis awakens that whole debate about nature vs. naughty. It is no wonder, really, that method acting so often provokes its practitioners to act so moody: it does, after all, involve so much punching.
I'll take your drama and raise you one! I have two girls in residence...a two year old - going on twenty two (I kid you not, go watch the video I posted the other day - it just screams PRECOSCIOUS!), and an eighteen year old who is about to leave for college.
I may not survive my eldests departure for college, because in her eyes NOTHING IS GOING RIGHT AND THE WORLD IS GOING TO END, and if by some miracle I DO survive, I can almost guarantee I won't survive the terrible twos of the other one!
Ur oh. Having some issues? poor Holly. You want in on pedicures before dinner?
if the fruit fell farther from the tree then we couldn't blame the Dad for everything! teeheehee......
ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I love genetic-y! Frankly, I know it's enormously painful for parents, but kids who do this really do better in life. They learn how to get along with other people. They don't take offense too easily and laugh.
You're doing a really great job - just keep up the good work and they will thrive.
Gawd that's funny. I think those rules have been inscribed somewhere in my house where I just haven't found them yet, cuz it seems about the same here. Except that sometimes, the older boy will mix it up with a kick instead. Damn karate dudes performing at 4th of July events...Damn you all!
ZOMG, perfect post!!!
I've got a little sumpin for you on my blog.
What a great, great time! They are having so much fun. I wait for a client by a public fountain and see so many kids crying or whining. You've done a great job to just allow your boys to have fun.
That looks like so much fun!
