I have been interested to watch the boys mature and see when that phase of self-awareness kicks in that triggers modesty.
For the most part it hasn't. They are more than willing to walk around the house in various stages of undress.
Running free...
I always figured I would take my cue from them. When it started bothering them then I would be more aware of what I was doing. I mean I am their mom and although it is my duty to embarrass them, I will do it consciously.
I just didn't expect the cue to come from my three year old.
The other morning I was in my bedroom/bathroom/closet getting dressed after a shower. He walked in and sat down. He was chattering away.
Laughing.
Being silly.
Telling stories.
I got dressed and brushed my hair and just before I was leaving to go make breakfast he said...
Mom you look so much better.
So much better clothed?
Ouch.
So now no one is allowed in my bathroom when I am getting dressed.
Not for modesty, but for ego preservation.

Yikes! those 3 year old don't know how to lie do they?
When I was little our bathroom was upstairs and my bedroom was downstairs. I used to run by the living room on my way to my bedroom screaming "nude man, nude man".
Thanks for stopping by,
That's gonna leave a mark. :-)
(I'm sure he meant "You look pretty.")
SOLD! New fan here! That is stinkin' cute! My son used to walk around with his hand across his eyes like those black bars you see in "fashion don't" photos! Apparently, I was much too offensive for him! lol!
LOVE your blog! So happy you came by to visit so I could return the favor! (Uh..now you're kind of stuck with me...evil grin..)
That is too funny! My 5 year old is very modest, but than again he has to tell his fart jokes in the bathroom!
Ouch. But funny!
They DO know just the right thing to say, don't they? Brats.
LMAO
Welcome to the club, kiddo...clothes are my friend. My BEST friend.
By the way, clearly the boy doesnt know what "hot" IS yet.
;-)
That is lovely. My two year old said "mommy, I like you cuz you're squishy." I almost cried. Tried to convince myself its a compliment... but its not working.
Yea, that will put a damper on things.
I keep telling my boys that they are what made me squishy in the first place. So there!
They don't seem to be buying it though. Ingrates.
Gotta love a kids brutal honesty.
or maybe he is just very fashion aware and really liked your outfit...
The boys' gonna have to work on his technique a bit, before he gets to college.
Who hasn't heard "mommy your bum is so big!"? Oh, is it just me?
I'd make sure he got everything THIRD for the rest of the day. I'm passive aggressive like that.
OMG! That is hilarious! Kids say the darndest things.
Ah kids...they can be painfully honest. LOL
Don't cha just love em?
HA!

When you have girls you get to take a bath with them and have them entertain themselves by jiggling your various body parts (that you would really prefer to be non-jiggly). Sigh.
I think we may lead parallel lives. This morning, in a changing room at The Gap (yes, The Gap), as I took off my jeans, my 4-year-old son said (loudly), "Ewww, gross, Mom." Nice.
Yep. I've heard many times that I'm not to attracted unless completely clothed.....
Doooooooooood
Holy crap. I'm dying.
Which is why it IS our duty to embarrass them....
Ouch for the honesty. I feel your pain.
I have sooo been there. I am working on teaching my three-year-old to lie right now.
He's going to be a tough one! He'll be lucky if you don't hold that against him the rest of his life!
My 10 year old walked in the bathroom the other day when I was in the shower. It didn't make me feel very good that he shrieked and ran out screaming about being blind from now on. Sigh.
My youngest stated how mushy my belly was. It's funny how he didn't mean it as an insult.
Don't ask this kid "Do these jeans make me look fat?" He'll say "It's not the jeans".
I get this. Sigh.
I am so glad you stopped by. Looks like your site is one I haven't visited nearly enough. I LOVE this story. I'm thinking my kids have given me so cues that I haven't taken. crap. :)
:) Love me some Rhett!
Keep them out until he learns to lie.
I knew it was time to be more modest when Jack started telling everyone about his mom's "big nipples". Oy.
Ouch. Definitely banned from the bathroom.
I'm absolutely certain he just meant you looked better with your hair brushed.
Now...you KNOW it could have been the hair that looked SO MUCH BETTER. It could have!
My son has alluded to the fact that I'm squishy. Niiice.
Makes you wish they kids didn't always tell the truth.
LOL... But I hear ya, same thing here. My daughter was eye level with my rear after bursting in when I was getting out the shower. She says, It's so big... hrumph!
